My Students
My students attend a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school in New York. Our school is located in an area with a very high concentration of poverty. Most, if not all, of my students are eligible for free lunch.
Although my students are just first graders, they have made tremendous progress this year.
They are continuing to make progress both academically and behaviorally. Providing them with a variety of art supplies will provide them with choice during art center time.
My Project
"A picture is worth a thousand words."
My students are a hard working group of first graders who are persistent, and determined to do well in school.
They are hard workers who need essential resources to help them do their best work.
My students enjoy lessons that require them to use artistic and creative expression. A picture can tell a story as well as, if not better than, a sheet of paper filled with words. My students are fully engaged when asked to use pencils or markers to draw or illustrate their own stories, or draw a character, or their favorite scene from a story they have just read.
The resources that I am requesting: sketch and write pads, crayons, glue sticks, an arts and craft kit, pencil grips, Play-Doh, pipe cleaners, pencils and a pencil sharpener, will enable them to take their artistic and creative skills to the next level during visual arts lessons that require them to see, think and wonder! These art supplies and resource will also enable them to be creative and artistic!
The sketch and write pads will also enable them to sketch still life and illustrate their own stories or poems. These resources will enable them to be engaged in hands-on visual arts lessons and activities that require them to use critical and higher-order thinking skills.
