I am instructor with a drop out prevention program, that targets students in grades 9 through 12. My class works with at risk youth to keep them in school and on track to a high school diploma. Because the school is located in the rural Mississippi Delta where the poverty level is extremely high, students aren't exposed to things their counterparts in other cities are. This class provides them with a foundation that will allow them to make a smooth transition from school to work or post secondary education by opening doors to new things and new possibilities.

The materials isn't of high priority and it would be because of a lack of funds that students can't capture their actions in print. It is my belief that if students are awarded this material they will be able to reflect on the good they can do. Keep in mind these students are the ones that are believed to be low achievers and on the verge of dropping out of school. They like doing things to help others and with this scrapbook material I believe they will be given a chance to feel good about helping others and can use the camera and scrapbook as a tool that will help them reflect on how they can make a difference.

The students participate in numerous community services projects. I believe that scrapbook material will allow them to reflect on the good they have done. Often times they are the recipients of a good deed. But it allows them to feel good about themselves if they can participate in these events, capture it on film and keep as a reminder that I can make a difference as well as make a change.

You will make it possible for my students to have the opportunity to not only capture their community activities but also any other projects they do and can have memories of. I believe that many activities like this can be a boost to their ego and make them more confident. They can look back over their photographs and say see what I did, see what I can do!!
