Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
They need a safe environment where they can build self esteem. Students can discover new talents they didn't know they had before through special projects. They can as well support each other during this learning process causing an increase in their knowledge and with reading comprehension.
Our school has a great amount of students coming from a low income household.
Many of the parents work two jobs leaving their children unattended and taking care of themselves after school. Many parents arrive late at night. At that time the parent starts dinner and hopefully has time to help with H.W. The only chance many of these students have to experience creative things or travel out of their home town is through their school.
My Project
With supplies donated to my classroom, students will be able to display imagery through art. I remember a student of mine from two years ago who had difficulty with creating pictures in her mind while reading. The student was in tears when she was speaking to me about her not being able to picture any scenes from a story in her mind. She had a hard time recalling events from any text. Canvas painting will encourage students to relate to a scene in which has impacted them. It will also keep them focused and create an interest in what they are reading. Canvas painting will cause students to have an interest in what they are reading, encourage students to keep focus, and relate to a scene from the novel that has impacted them. This interesting activity will help the students focus and use imagery as a tool for comprehension.
Your donations will create an art gallery of students work inside the classroom and possibly in the Media Center advertising the novel to students in the entire school.
It will interpret different views of the novel behind each individuals eyes. Their paintings will show how the story impacted each in their own unique way. They will be able to see how one scene can be interpreted differently and that it is okay. It's normal to think differently and interpret things differently than others.
