My students need printer ink, 10 reams of paper, and 10 binders to create accommodating social studies and science material to access the general education curriculum.

Autism Rocks! I work with students affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and learning disabilities. I have some students in general education classes all day, some students come and go, and some students stay in my classroom for the majority of the day. I love working with ASD students. Our classroom is very structured and functions on several cognitive levels.

Since my class functions on several levels it is my responsibility to modify the general education curriculum allowing all levels of students to access the material. We are using PixWriter and word work this school year. The PixWriter program allows me to type in text and it transfers materials to pictures representations. The students are responding well, but we continuously run out of ink and paper.

If we were able to get ink for our printer, we can adjust the material we must master to meet the needs of all students and keep in binders with their educational material. The binders will allow material to be kept together and allow easy transport to and from home for studying purposes. Word work letters can be created for the rest of the school year.

Your help will ensure my students are prepared for standardized testing by enabling me to present the material in way they can understand. Most students affected by ASD see material in pictures or understand pictures better than words. Preparing word work in advance allows transition to flow better during the school day. Helping students understand how words are formed will enable greater reading comprehension and recognition of patterns in written language.
