My Students
Our school is located in the beautiful city of Victoria in Texas. We have a diverse population who mainly come from the neighborhood where our school is located in and new students who were displaced due to the hurricane.
These students come from diverse families and include English language learners and students with special needs.
As a Title I school, we generally serve most students a free breakfast. Our school district was hit by Hurricane Harvey and as a community we are still trying to recover. This is a massive struggle for our families who are staying with other families or in accommodated housing. The majority of our students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and this is hurting them get back on their feet. Our students also have been having a difficult time adjusting to concentrating in class because they are worried about very adult issues at home.
We would love for every student coming to school wanting to learn and ready to learn and fall in love with learning, but sometimes we have to help them fall in love with learning like teachers fell in love with teaching!
My Project
For some students, coming to school is a chore that you do not get paid for. Other students see it as a place to escape their homes or dive into a world of educational excitement. For teachers, we go to school to inspire and encourage every person that crosses our path.
My goal is to take pictures of everything we do together this year from learning about the water cycle to the field trips or excursions in the playground garden.
Each memory that we make is important and should be documented as such. We have a very large area that we are displaying memories that we learned something, grew our knowledge, or an activity that we liked together in the classroom. While my phone is great at taking pictures, I want to empower students to capture those pictures of things that inspire them and that they would love to see in our classroom.
