My Students
My students are a diverse group of individuals. They come from a variety of backgrounds and have a variety of advantages. Our school is a Title I school and our population is made up of about 50% low-income families. As a teacher, I always strive to level the playing field between my students and to offer engaging resources. My goal is to make ALL of my students want to learn. Unfortunately, on a teachers salary, this is not always easy. That is why I am turning to DonorsChoose.org for a little help.
My Project
Learning to read is a huge part of Elementary school. As a teacher I aim to not only teach my students how to read, but also to help them develop a lifelong LOVE of reading.
Experts say an effective classroom library should have about 20 books per student, in my class that would mean about 460 books! On a teacher salary I can't afford to provide that for myself students.
These books are on a variety of levels, come from a variety of genres, and discuss a variety of subjects. This will help to ensure that all of my students can find at least one book they are interested in reading. Many of these books also tie onto other curriculum areas like social studies, science and Social Emotional Learning.
Please help me to teach my students to love to read.
