Middle school is that pivotal time where students are grappling with who they are and who they want to become. My students are no exception. They enter my classroom from diverse backgrounds and their own unique set of circumstances, and yet, they come ready to read, write, think, collaborate, and achieve. On any given day, this is not as easy as one may think. My students are both struggling readers and exceptional readers; green writers and adept writers; behavioral projects and model citizens. Despite where they are in their academic journey, they are all an integral part of our learning community and they are my reason to come to school each day.
My students are inquisitive, amusing, and enthusiastic.
They work hard to engage in the daily classroom activities and strive for excellence. They are committed to improving their reading skills, tackling challenging questions, and growing their ability to communicate. They proudly share their learning accomplishments, and are steadfast cheerleaders for peers who haven’t yet attained their learning goals. I am truly proud of the effort each student puts forth and proud of the citizens and leaders I am watching develop right before my eyes.
My Project
My students are working on their story telling skills, with a focus on dialogue. What better way to improve these skills then to practice with picture books? The story is there, they just have to work to tell it!
These books will help my budding writers enhance their story-telling abilities.
Students will be grouped in teams of four. Each team will have a copy of the book. They will work together to tell the story and to apply dialogue for the characters.
These picture books will meet the diverse needs of my students. Those who are struggling learners will be able to easily access the material and those who are more adept will be able to craft more intricate tales.
