My students are happy, excited kids who love to learn and LOVE to read.
Every single child tries his/her hardest, even though we don't always get everything we need to make each child as successful as possible.
I want every child to see school as a safe place to grow and learn.
This project will reach four fifth grade classrooms, all set in a rural environment. These students come to school eager to learn and excited about what each day may bring.
My Project
Some people believe that picture books are only for young children. This couldn't be farther from the truth! We learn from these books, not just facts, but universal truths.
These books allow all students access to information that they otherwise may not be able to get.
They also allow for deep discussion, a common text we all can share.
There is even a movement called #classroombookaday that calls for the reading of at least one picture book a day- no matter the age of the kids! I would love to be able to do this with my students. So many of my students ask if they can read picture books instead of novels. My response- Of course you can! Not only does this help build comprehension and classroom community, but it would help them stay kids a little longer. Having access to more picture books will only enhance my students' love of reading!
