Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school with a desire to learn. Many of their homes are chaotic, and school provides a consistency that doesn't exist in their lives. Our school is in an area of high poverty. All children in my school receive free breakfast, lunch, and snack each day. We are currently in our fifth year as a Commissioner Network School. We continue to strive each day to raise the rigor; however, we are met with financial deficiencies around every corner.

My Project

My students have a lot of energy. As I walk around the classroom I am constantly tripping over chairs because no one is sitting in them. My kindergarteners have difficulties staying seated while working. Many of my students don't even sit at all. Some are falling out of the chairs because they are kneeling half on the chair and half off, while others are laying across the table. I would like to provide my students with a variety of acceptable options.

In today's modern world the workplace provides employees with flexible seating options for improved concentration and as 21st century learners, I would like to provide my students with the same opportunities.

Flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.

Imagine walking into a classroom with some students sitting on pillows at low tables, some students sitting on stools at bistro tables, while others are working at standing stations. I am picturing a comfortable and productive classroom.
