I have the pleasure of teaching at a sweet little primary school tucked away in a small community in Tennessee. Within the walls of our school, we teach and reach preschoolers, kindergarteners, and first graders. In my classroom, I spend the day with 19 amazing students. I also share a few extra students with another teacher during our reading block each day. This brings my total number of students to 25. Our entire Title I school receives free lunch due to the high poverty rate of our students.
The students within my classroom come from a variety of backgrounds and speak many different languages.
Although my students face a lot of challenges in their daily lives, they strive to be the best at everything they do. My goal is to continue to provide them with the support necessary to not only reach their goals but to surpass them as well. Lately my students and I have placed an extra emphasis on achieving the reading goals we created. Together my students and I are attempting to overcome many obstacles one goal at a time.
Flexible seating will make a big difference in my classroom during our reading block. Flexible seating options will give my students opportunities to change their seats and make learning more exciting. Currently my students sit in different places around the room to work during Literacy stations. In most cases the students find themselves sitting on the floor. The cushions that I have requested will give them more comfortable options. The bouncy ball seats will work very well at one of my tables for stations as well.
I cannot wait to see how choices in seating will positively affect our classroom environment.
