Help me give my students the gift of seeing and doing physics! For example, when students use the genecon generators, they will be as amazed as I to see how circuits allow for energy to transfer.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are taking a high school physics course. Often when we think of physics, we think of the amount of math involved, and that can make it scary. What I am trying to do is make physics fun! I want the math to be just a means to explain all of the cool things that happen in our world. I want them to be able to see and experience the science, rather than just read about it.
Our school is found in the heart of West Baltimore.
The area around our school as experienced many ups and downs, which have had a large impact on my students. Many of my students come from difficult situations, yet despite this, they persevere and are present in their learning. They are curious. They ask questions. They seek information. I want to offer experiences that create excitement and engaging learning opportunities.
My Project
These materials will help my students visualize everything we are learning. So often I hear kids say "I don't know why we're learning this math, we never use it anyway." I want my students to see the math we are learning in practical use.
The genecon generator will give kids a visual of how circuits allow for energy transfer.
I want to be able to make the connections between the math, what we will be able to see happen in the classroom using the materials in this project, and what happens in the real world. Being able to make the connections from classroom to life is the goal of my teaching.
