Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Little people are busy and keeping them engaged in learning can be a challenge but with hands-on STE(A)M lessons linked to great literature, even the youngest of students can experience rich classroom learning. Our school is a Title I school and the student population is very diverse. While a large number of students are Hispanic, we also have students who identify as Southeast Asian, African, African American, and Caucasian. As my site's Science Enrichment teacher, I see all of our students from transitional kindergarten, first, and second grades - almost 300 altogether!

This is why STE(A)M in my classroom is so great. It not only provides students with the opportunity to build on their English and math skills, but to use science learning to participate in an engineering activity. Through developing skills as they work like scientists and engineers, these little learners are also learning how to work in groups, share materials and make compromises. Every day they learn something new that helps them to become better students and future citizens of the world!

My Project

I have an amazing teacher resource that provides some amazing suggestions for hands-on physical science based STE(A)M lessons for elementary students that are tied to fiction and nonfiction texts that engage students in complex topics and support student understanding. I need your help to make these lessons come to life!

My students are eager to learn and I want to help develop their passion for science and engineering- asking questions, investigating, and solving problems!

I have taught a few lessons with picture books and have seen an amazing response in my students. With this project, I will be able to complete our physical science units with the books and materials I need to engage all my students in learning about energy, forces, magnets, inventors, and materials science!
