My Students

I am originally a NYC teacher now living and teaching in Phoenix, Arizona. I have worked in three different Title I Schools and have a wide variety of experience working with students from all over the world. I like to expose my students to cooperative learning structures, small group instruction and center based learning. I believe that when students are engaged in learning they take risks and develop a deeper understanding of rich content.

My first graders are magnificent, energetic, and eager to become the future leaders of the world.

My students always tell me that centers are their favorite part of the day. I often hear them yelling out "Yessssss!" when they realize that we are about to work on reading/math centers. Knowing that my students love this part of our day, I want to create more engaging center rotations.

My Project

The phonics board games, game spinners, and wooden alphabet blocks will allow my students to explore physical, hands-on phonics. Using these supplies in my word work centers, my students will be able to explore short and long vowel sounds, digraphs, r-controlled vowels, and many different vowel teams that are necessary and a part of the first grade curriculum. They can build and spell many words using the wooden alphabet blocks. Also, the game spinners will make a perfect addition to my spin a word and build it games. These supplies are important tools that allow my students to develop a deeper understanding due to exploring them physically and hands-on.

These tools will help transform my students into great readers!

Centers are a favorite time of day in my classroom where students take ownership of their learning. By donating to this project, you will help make my center rotations successful for my first grade students!
