Help me give my students digital cameras, so we can begin our photography program that will place an emphasis on the use of technology while examining nature.
Our STEM Academy program is comprised of certified teachers who believe in furthering student understanding of STEM concepts beyond the classroom. Our program has a special focus on cultural diversity, direct family engagement, gender equity, and access to programming for all students.
Our students are enrolled in grades K - 12.
Our students are interested in hands-on STEM investigations, applying their knowledge beyond the classroom and problem solving with peers to solve challenges. Our students engage in STEM programming during after school sessions that are open to all students. As a result of participating in our programming, 100% of students will produce a final project, and 100% of students will demonstrate increased STEM knowledge in pre and post surveys. In addition to increasing student achievement and engagement in the learning process, our students will increase their self-esteem and collaboration with peers in a supportive nurturing environment that fosters creativity and imagination. By supporting our project with high interest materials, donors will help us to begin our Photography program that will place an emphasis on the use of technology while examining nature.
My Project
The Canon PowerShot ELPH 180 Digital Cameras that we are asking for will extend the learning day, our project is designed for students to deepen their understanding of STEM concepts. Our specific mission is to promote 21st century thinking skills through direct involvement with students and their families. The resources purchased in this grant will enable students to learn engineering and scientific practices through direct engagement in these processes. The content learned in these units will directly align with current Next Generation Science Standards, while giving students the opportunity to collaborate with peers in the problem solving process. For example, our students will be using their knowledge of light, refraction and reflection to capture unusual perspectives of nature and our community.
These cameras will provide our students with opportunities to expand their thinking and connections to the world around them.
Our program engages students with reality based programming, opportunities to explore technology, observations of nature and use their knowledge in project based learning. Our program not only increases student achievement, but it increases student engagement in school and provides opportunities for learning tracks based upon personal interest.
