The mission of Albany School of Humanities is to educate all students to be lifelong learners, capable decision-makers and positive contributors to their community.
As a reading specialist, I have the opportunity to work with teachers, but most importantly, I work with students directly to improve their literacy skills and watch them grow.
I work with my team of literacy professionals and classroom teachers to always strive to improve our students' reading instruction. Each day we collaborate to promote student success and growth!
My Project
As a reading specialist, I teach the many essential components of phonemic awareness and phonics skills needed for all students to read and develop their fluency and comprehension. These bins will help to organize each essential component.
"To learn to read and spell using phonics, children have to learn the relationship between letters (graphemes) and sounds (phonemes), and then remember the exact letter patterns and sequences that represent various speech sounds." (Moats, 2000)
My role is to push into various classrooms with many different needs of students. After phonics assessments, I will pull specific phonics skills that the students are lacking in order to re mediate and progress their abilities. This project will help with the organization of this!
