Phonics Fun

My students need phonics cards in order to build on their phonemic skills in order to become better readers. Phonemic awareness is a fundamental skill children need in order to read fluently.

My Students

I work in a low income and very transient school. We live in a town where tourism thrives, which means at any given moment there’s a chance of a knock on the door with a new student on the other side. That new student is probably only here for a few weeks. They may or may not have a backpack or supplies. There’s also a good chance they live in a hotel. That same student probably doesn’t speak much English. Regardless of what language they speak, where they come from, or how long they will be with me, it’s my job to give them the best possible learning experience. These kids are my life and they deserve the very best.

My Project

The phonics cards and power pen will impact my students positively as they will be able to monitor themselves during independent workstation time. Phonemic awareness is a fundamental skill in first grade. In order to become a successful reader students must have basic phonemic skills so they can read fluently. The power pen allows them to have instant reinforcement when completing the phonics card. The power pen and card excites the students. The twist and turn three letter word builder will allow students to manipulate letters into words or word chunks. This will assist them in finding familiar chunks in unknown words.
