I teach 26 eager first grade students who enjoy learning how to read, write, and do math and science. Our wonderful school is located in Southern California. We have won several academic awards. Since we are not a Title I school, funding extra projects is very difficult. I have students that range from below grade level to advanced. All of my students come to school, "ready to learn". We need phonics books specifically written for beginning readers to help students learn how to sound out, write, and read basic words.
My Project
I have 19 years of teaching experience. The Plaid Phonics Book I am requesting is a resource that I do not want to loose. Other phonics books do not provide the amount of practice and repetition needed to master phonics skills. The plaid Phonics book reviews previous lessons while teaching new ones daily. Students truly learn how to spell, form letters correctly, and blend sounds together to read words and simple sentences. Sight words are also taught in this book. I want to give my students the best resource to help them learn how to read. Students enjoy the colored pictures and big lines for writing. I love the smiles I see on their faces as they master reading.
