The students were already familiar with the regular pattern blocks found in most classrooms. My students love watching our plants grow in our terrarium which has condensation on the glass. At first, we did not cover up the gaps in the glass and no condensation formed. Two of the fern plants died. We quickly got the idea to cover up the gaps that let air in with plastic wrap. Now, our plants are thriving! \r\n In March, we read Dr. Seuss books to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday in conjunction with Read Across America. Students read a few books that day and took at least one AR reading quiz on their computer. The next day, I rewarded students with Dr. Seuss stickers from our funded project. My students love to collect stickers in their sticker books. During Open House students will show their parents all the stickers they earned this year (Many students count their stickers which reinforces number fluency skills).\r\n The hot air balloons, cupcakes, and doughnut hanging lanterns brightened our ceiling this year! Students love coming into a colorful inviting room and enjoy the beginning of each month as I change our beautiful ceiling decorations! \r\n The laminating pouches have been used throughout this year to laminate student artwork, vocabulary words, classroom posters, and the front and back covers for their memory books. In a few weeks, Open House will arrive and I know my students will be excited to show parents their memory books, art/writing projects, and work on our walls. My students loved putting the number puzzles together. Sometimes when it rains, my students have to stay indoors for recess. On rainy days my students enjoyed putting the number puzzles from 1-30 together. They made a beautiful fish puzzle and were proud of their accomplishments. I like when students work together when completing puzzles. This helps students learn about teamwork which they will need when they enter the workforce.\r\n Everyday students enjoy watching our plants grow. We watched ferns and a snake plant. Students used a spray bottle to create moisture inside the terrarium. Our plants are thriving and the moss branch decoration adds character to our terrarium. Our terrarium light is helping our plants get the proper amount of light in our classroom that has no windows.\r\n Open House is around the corner and students will get the chance to grow peas, flowers and beans as part of our plant unit. Our propagation station has 4 glass bulbs full of water and cuttings from plants growing roots. I choose cuttings from a pothos plant, dwarf water lettuce, and peace lilly to show how water makes the roots grow on plants. It was incredible to watch this process! \r\n Thank you for our carpet sweeper. Each day students are happy to run the sweeper over our carpets. This sweeper picks up bits of construction paper, pencil shavings, broken crayons and any dirt on the carpet. Our sweeper gets a daily workout in our room!\r\n Thank you Campbell Foundation for funding our entire project! My students love watching their bean seeds sprout and grow. The resources I was able to purchase have allowed me to bring in artistic, hands-on projects that blend writing, math, and social-emotional learning in engaging and purposeful ways.\r\n\r\nThese projects help students connect academic skills to real life. Instead of simply solving problems or responding to prompts, students are reflecting on their goals, practicing gratitude, building empathy, and strengthening perseverance — all while applying grade-level writing and math skills. They might be solving multi-step math problems within a themed project, writing thoughtfully about character traits or personal growth, or creating artistic displays that showcase both their learning and their self-reflection.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for my students is how these activities feel meaningful and personal. They love that they can express themselves creatively while still growing academically. The artistic components give students pride in their finished work, and the social-emotional focus gives them a safe space to think deeply about who they are and who they want to become.\r\n\r\nI've especially noticed students who need confidence boosts or extra engagement truly shine during these projects. Some of my quieter students have opened up through reflective writing, while others who thrive creatively have shown deeper academic understanding when given a more artistic outlet.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a classroom environment where learning is not only rigorous, but also reflective, creative, and heart-centered. Currently, we are in the middle of finishing up our Chinese New Year flip books that I purchased with the gift card from TPT. Students loved when I read aloud the book, The Runaway Wok which has engaging pictures showing life in China during the New Year celebrations. This book was interesting because the message of the book was about a greedy family that would not share their wealth with their neighbors. The magical Wok makes the greedy family share their food, money, and toys with their poor neighbors. We talked about the importance of sharing and helping one another. This week, students are making boxes out of the popsicle sticks you purchased for our class. This is a fun project and my students will decorate their boxes with our new Chinese stickers. I love giving my students different, engaging projects made possible by your kindness! I wish you could of seen their faces as they walked into our classroom with Chinese fans and vibrant red paper lanterns that are hanging from our ceiling.
