Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. More than half of my students come from low income households.
One third of my class is made up of students who receive special education services.
Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school every day eager to learn. Our school serves students in grades K-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. A goal of mine is to provide my students with a safe and exciting classroom.
My Project
Reading is thinking. I want to provide my students with rich, quality phonics instruction to help them learn to read and become better readers.
Phonics (sounding out words) is the most effective method to learn to read.
The materials that I am requesting in this project are designed to provide quality and engaging phonics instruction. The tactile letters will help students who learn through sensory experiences and the magnetic letters will be used to build words. Hear Myself phones will allow students to hear the sounds. The folder bins will allow us to organize materials for centers.
My students need the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways. Building words, having tactile experiences will help reach every child in my classroom and help them learn phonics in a way that's the best for them.
