My Students
I teach second grade at an inner city school. I always have students who are behind grade level and need additional support from me. That is why I created my DonorsChoose.org account; so I can get help purchasing materials to help me work with my students and bring them up to grade level.
My students have grown up in poverty, but I strive to give them the best education possible.
They don't need anyone to feel sorry for them, but they do need adequate resources to be successful.
My Project
I teach 2nd grade and I need some CVC phonics materials to work with small groups of students. Some students are struggling readers and need to focus on more basic skills.
I also would like the magnet fractions so I can put them on the board and model for students.
Then, I can have students come up to the board and explain their thinking while moving the fraction pieces around. The number mat for the floor will increase engagement and movement in my classroom while working on basic math skills. I would really like the paddle boards so students can respond to me when we are doing whole group work.
The "What Would You Do" cards are to help with social emotional skills. I need to teach my students the proper way to react in different situations. One card, for example asks what would you do if you see another student being bullied? These are the types of scenarios that are included. I can pull a card each day and spend 5 minutes having students give ideas and explain what to do in that situation.
