Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Students in my classroom come from all walks of life and so do their families. Literacy and phonemic awareness is a huge focus in Kindergarten. So many of my students do not go to pre school and come into Kindergarten with zero skills. These students are understandably behind. I want to give my students the Heggerety Pre-k manual so that students that come in without foundational skills can get pull out services to help them be on par with their peers.

Literacy in the community is so important.

It is so important to involve families in their students literacy journey. I want to give my students the red word books so they can use them at home and at school. I want to build a connection between parents, community and school. The workbooks will allow the students to help their families build literacy. I want to make phonemic awareness toolkits with some of the worksheets from heggerety and the red word books, this way students can use these with other students and adults at daycare centers, home and also at school!
