Phonemic Awareness Buffet

Help me give my students tools to help build their phonemic awareness by "popping" sounds.

My Project

We recently attended a Professional Learning segment to help us with strategies to teach phonemic awareness. Recent studies show that children starting at the age of 3 can dive deep into learning phonemic awareness. We learned ways to do this by using pop-its to help students associate the number of sounds they hear in a word. We also saw a demonstration using slinkies to segment sounds that students hear in a word. With the purchase of these slinkies and pop it bracelets, students will be able to practice these skills and also work on fine motor skills. These tools will be dispersed amongst an entire grade level.

We also discuss the lack of handwriting practice in schools.

Students have difficulty holding a pencil correctly. I included the pencil grippers for each student in our entire grade level to be able to learn how to hold their pencils correctly.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
