As a teacher in a public charter high school, my classroom consists of students from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school provides an opportunity for children from local and neighboring towns to earn a valuable education and prepare them for life after high school. Whether students are entering the work force, military, or college, we have high expectations in all that they do.
My Science classes are full of students who are eager to learn but sometimes get overwhelmed by content and can defeated when they feel they don't know how to overcome certain learning related obstacles.
Basic supplies like a calculator should not be an obstacle for any student. My goal is to provide students with the materials they need and help my students make positive meaningful connections with the material they learn in the classroom - ultimately making them lifelong learners.
My Project
The 30 Texas Instrument calculators I am requesting will allow each of my students to have immediate access to a scientific calculator. We perform calculations every day and students that don't have access to calculators or try to use the "phone calculator" often get lost or behind.
Your donation to this project will help students focus on understanding and applying the concepts and ultimately helping them be successful in the sometimes stressful world of Chemistry.
When studying such an intense subject, they need to be fully focused on learning rather than worrying about how to key the calculation in on their inadequate phone calculator. Regular practice with these TI calculators will also help them when they need to use them on standardized tests.
