With many new students coming in from Puerto Rico. My students need extra help and support with school supplies and snacks. The students at my school come from a working class neighborhood that is very well integrated. They are every color of the rainbow and come from multiple backgrounds. One thing that they have in common is that many of their families are working multiple jobs and having trouble making ends meet.
Teachers, counselors, and other staff members frequently purchase basic need items for students who are not able to receive them from their families.
This school uses a program of catching students doing the right thing. There is an ongoing conversation about "being a bucket filler" by doing good things. They receive incentive "bucks" for good behavior and deeds.
My Project
My students love our class pet. They love giving her treats, taking her out and playing with her. We are running low on supplies. We are in need of her treats, teeth chews, beds, toys and other supplies. My students will feel better knowing that we have supplies for our class pet.
We need new items for her cage to help her get cozy while in the classroom.
My students worry about the rat and they really take care of the rat. They would like a book about how to take care of and train a rat. My students would like a mini ball pit in which our rat can crawl around. My students are learning how to be responsible for taking care of our classroom pet.
