Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I put focus on providing items for my students to keep art materials and their personal instructional work organized, this helps them be successful in my class as well as teaches them to take responsibility and care for their possessions. Each student will receive a folder and sketchbook to store paperwork and complete daily drawing practices. At the end of their time with me they will have a sketchbook filled with work they can be proud of. The stickers and name tags will help students make a connection with these items.
I have found that my students are more likely to care for art materials and their work when they can spend time personalizing storage items with stickers, drawings, and their names in creative ways; making these possessions unique with their own style.
The pencil cases will also help me implement a new cellphone system to encourage students to unplug, detox, and focus on their education. Phones will be put in their individual pencil cases during instructional time but they will still have access to them when needed for translation (as roughly 50% of my artists are Spanish speaking), reference photos, and reading/viewing online instructional materials and examples. Having these materials to provide for my students will start off the semester right, teaching them about organization and responsibility to be carried throughout the school year and the rest of their lives.
