Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds within the neighborhoods of Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Roslindale and West Roxbury. They represent different cultures and languages ranging from Somalian and Ethiopian to Dominican, Puerto Rican and those born and raised in the United States of America.

My students will benefit from my Mindfulness class as a new initiative that my school has supported.

With a mindfulness practice that I introduce to my over 200 students each week, they will be able to increase their focus and their executive functioning skills along with heartfulness and increased empathy.

My Project

In my Mindfulness class, my students have access to yoga mats and my instruction of teaching Mindfulness from a curriculum called Mindful Schools. This curriculum is accompanied by a workbook for my kindergarten-5th grade students.

This workbook can become a very special place for the students to reflect upon their mindfulness practice as I share with them various strategies they can implement to become more mindful in their bodies and mind and throughout their lives both in and out of school.

Having bound workbooks helps to keep each student's work together in a very special presentation to take home at the end of the year.
