Personalized Learning: More Choices for Eager Learners

My students need Personalized Learning items. They need more choices for their personalized learning goals. The Reading Skills Activity Center and the Hands-On Instant Science Activity Library will give my students several choices.

My Students

"I don't know this...yet!" My students have a growth mindset where we focus on the power of "yet." We are also a "personalized learning" classroom. We work together by offering help and feedback. Our classroom is not just a room, but it is our home. We consider ourselves family. We are working together to learn new things each and every day by supporting each other and praising each other for our growth and success.

My students are in second grade.

I have the pleasure of having the inclusion classroom as well. I have the best of both worlds. I have regular education students along with students with special needs. I have 21 students this year with diverse needs and backgrounds. Our school is a Title 1 school in rural Florida. Our school is over 80% free or reduced cost breakfast/lunch. Many of our families don't have the extra funds needed to buy books for their children. As we are using the new Florida Standards, it is critical that our students have access to well written literature. Students need great literature to read, hold in their hands, and make connections with on a daily basis.

My Project

We are a personalized learning classroom. My students need several choices and a wide variety of topics to learn about each day. Students will manage their time and select what they want to learn about on a daily basis. These items will make learning fun and interesting for everyone. These items will improve our reading skills by daily skill practice.

The Hands-On Science Activity Library will foster a love of science.

Students can go deeper in their learning by using one of the books about a science or math topic. The can even use the fiction book to read with a friend or a group of friends on the carpet. It is all about choices.
