I teach 2nd grade inclusion. I have the best of both worlds. I have regular students along with students with special needs. My school is a Title 1 school. 70% or more of our students are receiving free or reduced breakfast/lunch. Many of our families do not have the funds needed to buy literature for their children. I want my students to love reading just as much as I do. I want them to know the pure joy of reading and the places you can go and the adventures you can have, just by reading a book. I love dressing up as characters from my favorite books. You should see my hat collection! I love to hear the great discussions my class has as we read a book and discuss our point of view and opinions. It is incredible listening to a second grader justify their point of view. Some of my students don't have any books at home to read. This just breaks my heart. I think all children should have books or the access to great books for their enjoyment.
