Our small school maintains a wonderful food pantry and backpack program which supports our students in their food needs. Additionally, we are often asked to provide personal care items for students, but are now out of supplies. Our third and fourth grade students are learning about personal hygiene and health in their physical education classes, and are in need of deodorant and shampoo! These items will go a long way towards ensuring all students have access to basic supplies that we so often take for granted.
These materials will be given to students during physical education classes after a lesson with a teacher and our school nurse.
They will be combined with additional materials (toothbrush, toothpaste, and body wash) from a grant to provide each student with a personal care kit. As a rural school, access to dental and health care is often limited, and setting a foundation for good health now will go a long way in the future!
