I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district and my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom every day.
I try to create lessons that incorporate current events, authentic tasks and travel outside of my student’s school and city so that they will have a toolbox of conversation points and experiences to share when they graduate.
I also encourage participation in community service to learn how important it is to give back to the community they live in and to experience the feelings of giving.
