This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds (95% minority), yet they are unified in the pursuit of academic excellence. In the school library, my students find a safe haven for achieving intellectual, creative, emotional, and social growth. Students learn marketable skills like reading, inquiry-based learning, problem-solving, and teamwork.

I teach at a Title I school in central Virginia where 100% of students can receive both free breakfast and free lunch, and about 50% of students speak English as a second language (current or former ESOL students).

My colleagues and I work creatively to ensure that no student misses an educational opportunity because of financial need. Your donation via DonorsChoose allows me to provide engaging educational content for all of the students I serve.

My Project

My students are eager to learn; but, sometimes basic personal needs stop them from performing at their best in school. One child may be cold or have painful blisters on their feet because they do not have socks to wear. Another may feel unclean or be embarrassed to sit near other students because they do not have hygiene supplies to keep them smelling fresh. These types of issues cause frequent distractions in my school, preventing students from concentrating on classroom instruction, participating in group activities and school sports, or even arriving to class on time.

Please help me to fulfill my students' self-care needs by providing them with a supply of men's and women's socks and deodorant at school.

Many of their families simply cannot afford to purchase these items, themselves. Having a stock of personal care products at school will allow my students to overcome some easily surmountable hurdles that currently inhibit growth both in the classroom and on the field.
