This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are excellent musicians. They dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to music. Once they enter my classroom they know it is a safe place but also a very serious place where we learn to be competitive and rise above the competition.
I have had students that have won the state spelling bee competition, the state Hear our Voices competition, Beta Club competitions, and been accepted to District Honor Bands.
Our band is a breath of fresh air to our school building. Our school mainly focuses on athletics so we do our part to receive just as much publicity. We perform anywhere we get a chance.
My Project
I have some very enthusiastic “drummers” that I would live to turn into Percussionists. These materials will help them be able to play all the parts to their festival music for this Spring. We are missing the Slapstick as well as the Tambourine parts that are critical on some of their music. The students are excited about marching band but I am working hard to change culture to get them just as enthusiastic about symphonic band and festival season. If the kids have the tools they need for all the songs instead of having to clap those particular parts it will make them more excited about it.
