Help me give my students extra percussion instruction to enhance their experience in band.

My Students

Inside our school community, there are awesome things happening! Students are learning to read that have never been able to understand written words. Students are exploring different cultures from around the world. Students are creating music and art and actively applying new concepts they are learning in other classes.

We are a Title I school in a rural area, and this year all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

We have over 400 students currently enrolled in grades sixth through eighth. I currently teach two band classes for 6th and 7th grade and one band class for 8th grade. Over 130 students are currently enrolled in band.

My Project

For this project, I'm requesting a class visit from a percussion specialist in our area. This will be the second time we have done the clinic this year and my kids have loved having Mr. Gaw's assistance. He will be able to conduct after school band clinics for six weeks and give them specialized instruction geared to their specific needs. As a percussionist myself, I remember the frustration of sitting in the back of the room while my band teacher helped all of the horn players. This would be an opportunity for my percussionists to be the focus of intensive instruction.

Donations to this project will greatly improve my percussionists' technique in all of my band classes.

They will have the opportunity to focus on different grips, techniques, and cadences that we typically do not have the time to cover in band class. This could be one of the best opportunities my percussionists could ever experience in band!
