This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have been working with seventh graders over the past four months. We have a "music" class, but there are no instruments available! Granted, I do have very basic and very cheap percussion instruments for some of the younger students (kindergarten through fifth grade). However, using this stuff with seventh graders is starting to become a little ridiculous. Today, I kept a few "difficult" children after school. I have snare drum sticks and started to teach them the basic rudiments of playing. They were absolutely enthralled. I've never seen them so quiet and cooperative. I've given them the sticks to hold on to for a week or so. I could not believe the excitement. Anyone with the means: please, throw these kids a little bit of generosity. Let's get some conga drums, bass drums, and snare drums, and really do something exciting!
