This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with 7-8 year old second graders.

I teach in a Title 1 school, with 97% of students qualifying for the free or reduced price lunch program in our urban neighborhood. My students are amazing thinkers with great potential and an eagerness to learn. They motivate me to become a better educator.

My Project

We use pencils and paper in the classroom every day! We need a heavy duty pencil sharpener that will handle every day use and keep going for a very long time. This is the biggest classroom necessity and our pencil sharpener is not working correctly anymore. We also need regular pencils and jumbo pencils to write with.

Pencils are not just used for writing they are used for making sense of the world around us.

We use pencils in the classroom for writing, drawing, thinking, vocabulary, grammar, counting, graphing, poetry, projects, science, social studies, creating something new, and assessments. We can't learn without a pencil.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
