I teach Earth Science to energetic high school freshmen. My students need Earth Science to graduate, and I try to make the class as interesting and fun as possible. My students enjoy learning, so I try to add games and logical thinking activities to keep their interest.
Budgets can only go so far in trying to buy necessary items for all classrooms.
I want to go a step further and get rewards to use in my classroom to add more fun, excitement and motivation. Who doesn't want to hear "Congratulations, you have just won!"? I want to be able to give my students the opportunity to hear that phrase and have it be meant for them.
I will use the pencils and erasers for rewards after review games, brain teasers or logical thinking games. By having these items the students will be enjoying the activities more and participating more. I will also use these to reward my students when I catch them doing exceptionally well. Pencils and erasers are such small items but very necessary to the life of a student. By winning these items, I know they will be used and provide motivation to my hard working Earth Science students.
My Project
We also do guestimation games which my students enjoy. They estimate or guess-guestimation-the next full moon, amount of rainfall so far this month, the time of today's sunset or other curriculum related topics. The person closest to the correct answer is the winner. It's a great way to introduce a topic, make the curriculum relevant to their lives and to have fun while teaching. The possibility of winning keeps everyone interested.
Small items such as pencils and erasers can add excitement to a classroom.
I want my students to enjoy the class and find it interesting to do guestimations and other educational games. I hope you will help me to provide this for my students.
