This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach an amazing group of 27 third graders at the inner city school, located near the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
Please help my students and me stop the mess of pencils shavings covered the classroom floor! Many have wasted time on trying to sharpen pencils with little cheap sharpener.
My third graders are a bunch of awesome, eager to learn students who are very inquisitive and full of questions.
Above all, they enjoy working together to solve problems and note-taking.
Most of my students' families are both culturally and low social economic disadvantaged. Although they come from families with limited means, they all strive to do their best in school. They all possess potential for academic success.
My Project
The basic necessity of the school supplies are pencils and pencil sharpeners. Due to our school recent budget constraints, we ran out of money to buy quality pencils and efficient pencil sharpeners that would eliminate time wasted on sharpening pencils. With the cheap sharpeners students brought from home, the pencil shavings have created so much dust and mess in our classroom. A clean and dust-free classroom is conducive to learning. Another key to sustained learning is to not have time spent on sharpening pencils.
Your support in purchasing these basic supplies will help reduce wasted time and increase student learning for my 27 third graders, who are constantly striving to do their best at school.
The pencil grips will support students with writing, and the Sharpie pens will help with labeling books and student belongings.
The new supplies will no doubt make our day of learning efficient and a cleaner classroom.
