My students need a heavy duty pencil sharpener because of the amount of writing we do in the class.

My Students

The average pencil is seven inches long, with just a half-inch eraser - in case you thought optimism was dead. The students are eager to learn as soon as they step into the room no matter the mistakes they make each day.

Our room is a place where students who struggle to read attend everyday to receive small group, highly intensive, direct instruction curriculum with constant review.

They are motivated and determined to make sure that they excel no matter the fact that they are all below their peers in their reading levels. They show perseverance everyday by walking in the classroom even though reading is something they struggle with.

My Project

Students will be able to have the chance to read, write, and engage more with a hard working, intense sharpener to assist in the fact they don't have to use their own small plastic sharpener when their pencil breaks every 20 seconds. With this in our classroom, we will have less distractions of students getting up every once in awhile to sharpen their pencils because of the fact it can be done quickly as soon as they walk in.

The students who are coming to my classroom already struggle with the fact they are so below grade level in their reading.

Having this pencil sharpener will assist in time spent in other activities besides having the appropriate materials for the class and give the opportunity to focus on reading and writing about what they are reading.
