My Students

Middle school students need to move......even when they are sitting still!

Our school serves a small but rapidly growing town.

My students are like most teenagers- lazy but can't sit still! This oxymoron is one of the things that makes them so special. They are also addicted to their devices and as they grow older, they tend to read less.

My Project

I would like to have two stationary bikes in the library for students to pedal while reading. Having a chance to proactively get the wiggles out will help them to focus on their reading while on the bike and the effects of exercise will also carry over into their classroom after they leave the library. This is especially important for our teenage boys. Having the bikes as an option for reading time will also help put the "cool" back in reading.

Adding stationary bikes to the library will encourage kids to move their bodies and to focus on their reading.

This unconventional situation of exercise and academics will help the most unsettled student achieve more. I can't wait for the students to get moving and get focused!
