Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

“I can do it!” are the words I love to hear from my students. I teach special education in an urban school district and my students encounter barriers inside and outside of the classroom. Outside of the classroom my students encounter lack of social skills, poverty, low-income, and vulnerabilities. Inside the classroom my students encounter barriers such as lack of prior knowledge, reading deficiencies, and behaviors that impede their education. Despite the many challenges they face, I always provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. I love teaching special education because I see the impact I have on my students every day!

My Project

These items will promote relaxation in the classroom. In the self-contained classroom, many students experience anxiety. The aromatherapy humidifier will be used to humidify the classroom whilst infusing the air with essential oils. This humidifier promotes relaxation and may help relieve anxiety. The diamond painting kits will be used stimulate creativity and reduce anxiety. The students enjoy hands on Stem activities. The Crystal Science Kit will be used to promote hands-on projects and increase engagement in the classroom. My students will appreciate and utilize all items inside the classroom.
