Peace, Love, and Mindful Moments!

My students need a bean bag chair, rug, and light covers to help create a calm cozy atmosphere where they can go to decompress when having a bad day.

My Students

My students are all children of military families. These children are some of the most positive, adaptable, kind students I have ever taught. They face having parents deployed for extended lengths of time with ease. Additionally, many of them move military bases every two years so they learn to quickly adapt to their new environment and make new friends. Their willingness to help each other and be good friends to each other is amazing.

While my students are great at adapting to change, they are still 8-year-old students who like everyone else have bad days.

I would love to create a cozy comfortable space within my classroom for student to take a moment and decompress when they are having a bad day. This will help them return their focus to learning much more quickly than focusing on their negative thoughts.

My Project

These materials will help enhance the caring, safe, and loving classroom dynamic that I try to create with my students. Students will be able to use the "Mindful Moment" corner when they are having an emotional moment. The beanbag, rug, and light covers will be used to create the "Mindful Moment" corner. Maybe Mom or Dad is deploying and they are sad, or maybe they got in trouble before coming to school that morning; these materials will be a place they can go to calm both their mind and their body. Once they are relaxed and centered, they can choose to talk to me or they can join in the class activity.

Allowing them to have a place to decompress and clear their head will ultimately help their academic focus.

If they are worried about what is going on, then they will never focus on the content I am teaching. If they are able to clear their mind and emotions, then they will have more success academically. These materials provide a comfy place to do that.
