Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are striving to create lives for themselves that surpass those of their parents; many will be the first generation to go to college or will be taking over the family business and trying to make it grow. They are very hard workers and come from families that value hard work and education. My students are very unique and come from many different countries (Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Germany, Dominican Republic, Columbia, Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Pacific Islands, Korea, China, Egypt, and other countries). Many are first or second generation in the U.S., and a large population does not speak English as their primary language at home.
We also have 20 different varsity sports and many junior varsity or freshman squads.
In the fall, we have field hockey, football, soccer, volleyball, cross country, gymnastics, and cheerleading. We also have over 50 clubs for our students to join, such as Mock Trial and FIRST Robotics Team 3314, Mechanical Mustangs.
As a high school, we support many local charities where our students both volunteer their time and raise funding for their missions: Homeless Bus, Woman's & Children's Shelter, Food Banks, Boys & Girls Clubs, and local Scouts.
My Project
This project is for our Mechanical Mustangs Robotics Team. We design, build, and program a 5 ft, 120 lb robot each season. This year, the game is Infinite Recharge and we are finding out about the game soon. We will have six weeks to strategize, design, fabricate, and program our robot. We work hand in hand with engineers in the areas of programming, electrical, mechanical, and computer-aided design (CAD).
This project is specifically for one West Coast Drive Transmission kit, which will house 3 motors and incorporate pneumatics and encoders that we will have to program using JAVA.
These transmissions are used on our drive train and have a power take-off so we can utilize the power of the transmission to climb or hang. Coding in JAVA is complicated, and having quality mechanical kits will help us code efficiently.
This is part 10 of a multi-teacher (coaches), multi-part project for all of our supplies for both our competition robot and our practice robot. Thank you for helping us to give our team an amazing robot to program.
