Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
OK, OK, so our students may not be at the playing level of team USA or Brazil, but they sure do love to play soccer; both the boys and the girls. With the weather getting warmer outside, we need to play outdoors. So my request is to get 12 indoor soccer balls for skill development and game play.
Our school is located in the heart of a large metropolitan city in Washington state.
The setting is a culturally diverse school with students from 20 countries. They speak over 15 different languages. We serve over 220 kids. You can walk down our hallways and hear kids speaking, Amharic, Tigrinya, Swahili, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Nepali, Somali, Oromo as well as many other languages.
The majority of our population has lived in the US less than 2 years. Many of them have been here for only a few months. Some of our kids have not been in a formal educational setting before, let alone a PE class. They are fortunate, and will get to experience a quality physical education program at our school.
My Project
Soccer is the most popular game around the world. Our non-American born students love to play it. Our kids can relate to one another by discussing, comparing, and bragging about their countries national soccer teams. We have a comprehensive soccer unit in our PE class. We play indoors as well as outside when the weather is nice. But we need indoor soccer balls to use when we play inside.
The goal is to provide as many traditional American activities for our students as possible. One of the most traditional classes offered through the years has been PE. We'd like our kids to be introduced to such sports as football, soccer, weight training and fitness, volleyball, baseball, kickball, tennis, hacky-sack, gymnastics, juggling, and parachute games. With your help many of these activities can be introduced to them if we can get donations and funding from you.
We know you care about kids and public education.
My guess is you are passionate about soccer and physical education. So, please help us, help our students develop the passion for PE and lifetime fitness activities. Your donation will be greatly appreciated. Together we can make this soccer project become a reality.
