Whether you look for the positive or the negative you will find what you are looking for, and we are strive to meet kids who need support with positive interventions and interactions. We are a school where a large portion of our students are considered at-risk for failing, qualify for free and reduced lunch, and have at least one behavior referral. Our students work hard to envision their personal and academic goals despite the daily challenges they face. They are good kids with big hearts and the drive to be successful.
Our students don't always see the full potential in themselves and the opportunities the world has to offer. They are capable of greatness and deserving of success and happiness. Our students don't always believe that and instead are often forced to grow up to fast, often faced with street violence, teen pregnancy, and discrimination. They are kids who dream big, imagine the unimaginable, and aim for the moon all while facing struggles far beyond their short 12 years of life. Our kids deserve the opportunity to see their true potential, know their worth, and defeat the stigma that they are up against.
They say it takes a village-we are their village! Help us show them their potential!
My Project
The Positive Behavior Supports in Schools (PBSIS) committee has created a student lounge for students to earn to eat lunch and hang out in a quiet space with friends. In this lounge we are trying to offer activities and opportunities that are creative and stimulating that will increase their motivation to do well in class so that they can continue to earn these opportunities throughout the school year. Offering the Oculus, a virtual reality experience, is something that not every child will have the opportunity to do and will provide a novel experience where they may continue to learn and grow in safe and fun learning environment.
