My students are thirsty tech-hungry digital natives always looking for the latest developments in gaining technology tools for learning. My students live and work in a small rural southwest Ohio school district. Many of my students have parents and grandparents who have attended the school in the same school buildings. My students have a passion for learning about the world around them as they engage in the learning process. We work in science class to incorporate digital tools and the latest in technology news into our learning process to make the content more relevant for student consumption and engagement.
My students crave new and unique instruction.
I teach 8th grade and have 7th & 8th students in an after-school enrichment program where they work to expand their knowledge of the world around us.
My Project
I live and teach in Ohio and I cannot believe that this amazing opportunity to learn about Project-Based Learning from the Buck Institute is going to be available in such close proximity to me. I have always wanted to attend a Buck Institute training and going to California to attend was always cost prohibitive.
In the field of Project-Based Learning, it is essential to build a network of teacher contacts to be able to share best practices and continue to improve PBL experiences for students.
I cannot wait to learn how teachers from around the United States and teachers from other countries are using these experiences to engage students in their science classes.
This training will improve my ability to become a more mindful and inclusive teacher as I work with my peers to develop experiences for students that enable greater opportunities for participation by all students. I am really looking forward to the ability to network with my peers through face to face contact at the training and then through an online book club throughout the school year to further hone my skills.
If I have this opportunity to attend this conference in Ohio and read up over the summer with strategic books on the subject, I know I will be better prepared to make learning in my classroom more interactive for my students and I look forward to creating more Project-Based Learning experiences. This project will cover the cost of registration and books.
