This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are leaders and change makers with many talents and skills. Our students respond to encouragement and modeling of correct behaviors. A token reward system with clear expectations of rewards and consequences has proven to positively affect our students.
Last year (2018-2019) our school saw a significant reduction in out of school and in school suspensions.
We are a school that supports the successes and encourages overall growth for our students. We believe in developing the whole child to include promoting academics, positive relationships, conflict resolution, and citizenship.
My Project
Positive and correct behaviors impact the overall learning process for everyone. Our school is a PBIS initiative school where we teach positive behaviors within our curriculum. As part of the initiative, we have a PBIS store available to all students. Students are allowed to use earned tokens (not real money) to visit the store and purchase items. Teachers and staff award the tokens to students for positive behaviors, academic accomplishments and citizenship. When positive behaviors are taught and followed, this reduces suspensions and isolations from class. The end result, "Learning Increases". The materials donated will be used inside of the "school store" for students to "buy" with their tokens.
