Pay it Forward Club

Help me give my students supplies for our Pay It Forward club. The students make different crafts to support people in the community. We make things to support shut ins, elderly, animal rescue centers, and our school community.

My Project

I started a club three years ago to help the middle school students I work with think about people other than themselves for one hour a week. I was inspired by the concept of Paying It Forward, a book that I have read with my students as well. Over the years some of the projects we have done changed, but each project is meant to bring a smile to the receiver. I ask parents and staff members in the school if they are connected to any agencies or groups that we could support through a service project.

The students have made a variety of crafts to support people that they will never meet.

One group made cards and wreaths for veterans. Students have decorated paper lunch bags with inspirational messages for women in difficult situations. Placemats are made a few times a year to give to shut ins for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. No sew blankets are made to give to the homeless, elderly, and animal rescue centers. Some of the projects the students have to work together on and this is beneficial because they are at an age where that isn't always an easy thing to do.

The students in Pay It Forward Club are happy to give of themselves and some of the students join the following year. The students get to be creative, social, and put a smile on someone's face. In order to keep this going we are in need of some supplies like fabric scissors, felt, pipe cleaners, and glue guns.
