Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Last year, more students than ever before applied to college nationwide. As the college adviser for an urban, public high school in New York City, my goal is to educate my students about the opportunities that will be available to them through post-secondary education.

Last year, we graduated our first senior class. After four years of hard work, they were finally ready to enter the real world. As we work to prepare our current students, we have begun to realize that we need more college reference materials. With the extremely competitive nature of the college admissions process, our goal is to make sure that our students are informed as they make the decision about what schools they want to apply to, and how they will go about paying for that education. Without enough books about college options, scholarship opportunities, and financial aid plans, we won't have the resources to adequately serve our student population.

This is where we need your help. We are asking for copies of books about college, financial aid, SAT and ACT preparation, and scholarship opportunities. We are really working hard to build a comprehensive college library, and feel that these materials will serve to educate our students about wide variety of college options.

Many of my students will be the first member of their families to go to college. Please help them to make informed and educated decisions about the college process by providing them with these crucial materials. We appreciate any help we can get, and are grateful for your support in making their dreams become a reality. Thank you!
