Pathfinders Summer Institute 2020

I need to attend this Pathfinders Summer Institute in order to bring computer science into my classroom for my students next school year! I got accepted into the Project GUTS CS in Science course!

My Students

I have been teaching for 20 years now. My students love to learn! I have only been in this district for five years but it has been the most rewarding years of my career. I love having students who are inquisitive, want more knowledge, and want to work hard to further their education. I feel like I'm always planning. I think my students enjoy all the effort I put into their education. Their love of learning makes my love of working appear easy. If you love what you do in life, it's not a job! I love what I do for my students!

I love planning all the fun projects that relate to standards that are being taught in the core classes.

Being a STEM elective teacher, I have an open-source of resources. There's so much information for me to learn as a teacher. I can't seem to keep it all organized enough to make it all work out. I need help organizing my brain so I can spend more time with my own kids.

I love my students and will continue to do my best but I need help with working fewer hours per week!

My Project

I've been trying to teach coding and programming to my students for the past five years with free programs that I can find online. It's time to step up my game and bring computer science into my classroom that was designed for the middle school classroom.

That's where this summer institute comes into play.

I will be able to join this conference virtually and learn about their computer science program. I am so excited to be able to bring this new curriculum into my classroom. I am all about finding opportunities for my students. That's my job! I learn and then I teach them!

After this virtual institute, I will be able to prepare my middle school students for high school! This, in turn, will prepare them for a career in computer science. I believe that starting our students at a young age will make their future success more solid!
