Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Both engaging with nature and participating in visual arts have been shown to support students' mental health and relationship with their community. This project will provide my students an opportunity to travel and explore to new corners of their community and city in search of beauty around them. Through the activity of outdoor painting, known as "plein air," my students will use their foundational knowledge of visual arts combined with SEL strategies to develop empathetic and positive relationships with nature and themselves.

As an art educator, I value equity and access for my students.

This includes providing high quality and professional art materials for them to use, especially within a Title I environment. In providing high quality materials, we are able to build a culture of respect and appreciation, ultimately supporting respect and appreciation of self and others.

The artworks created for this project will be showcased at our annual community arts night that brings together Elementary, Middle, and High School students to celebrate and support the artistic achievements of the community. Last year we were able to showcase over 260 artworks and 5 schools.
